NURS 1004 Foundations of Nursing

This foundational nursing course introduces the essential concepts, principles, and psychomotor skills that support professional nursing practice and safe patient care. Through integrated classroom, laboratory, and simulation experiences, students explore the history and philosophy of nursing, the nursing process, ethical and legal considerations, patient safety, infection control, and professional communication. In a simulated environment, students develop proficiency in fundamental nursing skills and basic clinical procedures while emphasizing infection prevention, therapeutic communication, and safe care practices. Emphasis is placed on developing critical thinking and clinical judgment to prepare students for initial clinical experiences and compassionate care of diverse populations from a Christian worldview. This course is comprised of 45 hours of lecture instruction and 45 hours of laboratory instruction.
