SOSC 3603 Community Development

An exploration of the principles, strategies, and practices involved in building strong, sustainable, and inclusive communities. Students will examine how economic, social, and political factors influence community well-being and learn approaches to mobilizing resources, fostering civic engagement, and promoting social change. Key topics include asset-based community development, social justice, public policy, grassroots organizing, nonprofit leadership, and economic development. The course emphasizes collaboration among stakeholders, including government agencies, nonprofits, businesses, and community members, to address issues such as poverty, housing, education, and public health.
