MUSC 2120 Sophomore Piano II

This course provides individualized piano instruction through weekly private lessons and a required weekly seminar/recital class. Instruction emphasizes the development of technical facility, stylistic awareness, musical interpretation, and professional performance standards. Students are required to complete technical exercises and etudes, including selected works by Hanon and Czerny, and to prepare repertoire appropriate to their level that presents increasing technical and musical demands. Required repertoire includes literature representing Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and 20th–21st century styles, with study drawn from standard piano literature. As appropriate, repertoire may include solo piano works, piano ensemble literature, concerto repertoire, and collaborative works. Repertoire selections are determined by the instructor based on the student’s technical development and pedagogical needs. Prerequisite: Passed jury for MUSC 2110.
