PSYC 3413 Abnormal Psychology

An examination of psychological disorders, their causes, symptoms, diagnoses, and treatments. Students will explore various mental health conditions, including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, schizophrenia, personality disorders, and trauma-related disorders, as they learn to integrate biological, psychological, and sociocultural perspectives to understand the complexity of mental illness. Key topics include diagnostic criteria, historical and contemporary views of mental illness, ethical considerations in treatment, and evidence-based therapeutic approaches such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and medication management.
